The Development of the Hat Industry in Qingdao

 Shanghai International Hats, Scarves, Gloves Expo and Fashion Accessories Expo promote the development of the hat industry in Qingdao

According to statistics, from January to June 2019, the retail sales of clothing, shoes, hats and knitted textiles above designated size increased by 3% year-on-year, and the retail sales of online wearing goods increased by 21.4% year-on-year, indicating a slow growth in the domestic market. From January to December 2018, China exported 1,188,943 hats, an increase of 4% year-on-year; the total export amount of hats in 2018 was $4,584,490, an increase of 6.9% year-on-year. It can be inferred that whether it is sold abroad or domestically, the hat industry has undergone high-speed development in recent years.


Speaking of China's hat industry, “Qingdao hat-making” is something that cannot be ignored. After nearly 40 years of development, the province has formed a featured industry cluster of more than 400 businesses on hat-making and related auxiliary materials, embroidery, printing, packaging, and logistics, centered on Ligezhuang Town. The annual output value reaches more than 4 billion yuan, and the products are exported to more than 100 countries and regions. A number of well-known businesses in the industry have also emerged.

The Shanghai International Hats, Scarves, Gloves Expo and Fashion Accessories Expo 2020, co-sponsored by China Commerce Association for General Merchandise and Shanghai Gehua Exhibition Service Co., Ltd., will be held in Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center between March 2 and 4, 2020. The professional Expos have drawn a large number of famous hat companies in Qingdao, including Qianfeng Capart International Corp, Oriental Spring, Dingruifeng Hat-Making, Aoliqi, Furuiyuan Clothing & Hats, Mingjia Hats, Qixing Hats and Xuanfeng Hat-Making. The reason why these businesses are drawn is that they find new business opportunities in the Expos thanks to the organizers’ integration and expansion of the channels in the industry!

On the one hand, this year’s Expos will be held simultaneously with the world’s leading 15th Shanghai International Hosiery Purchasing Expo (CHPE). 15 years ago, Shanghai Gehua Exhibition Service Co., Ltd. founded CHPE, which initially aimed at the export market only and now also includes the domestic market. It can attract about 400 socks exhibitors every year. The simultaneous holding of the Expos, which was carried out in the previous two years, meets the centralized purchasing needs of various import and export traders and buyers, and is therefore recognized by more and more businesses and purchasers.

On the other, the Expos highlight the professionalism of the hat industry. The organizers visited the major hat-production areas, listened to the professionals and held the “Spring of Hats”: China (International) Hat Cultural Festival during last year’s Expos. Starting from the market demand and brand orientation, this event presents the key parts of the industry including the industry trends, cutting-edge designs, intelligent production and advanced raw materials. Together with the release of the latest products, it will work together with the Expos to open the entire industry chain.

In the three days from March 2 to 4, 2020, the Expos will demonstrate the trends and changes in clothing and accessories. It is expected that 700 exhibitors will show to nearly 20,000 visitors 30 categories of products including leggings, baseball caps, knitted hats, felt hats, straw hats, scarves, silk scarves, neckwear, leather gloves, knitted gloves, sports gloves, socks and underwear in the 50,000-m2 exhibition area. The Expos are designed to present a giant show on distribution expansion, brand cooperation, negotiation and purchasing, and commercial promotion for people from related businesses, designers, distributors, import and export traders, retailers, buyers, and professionals from OEM. We believe that there will be more Qingdao-based businesses joining the platform.
